Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana
As one of three states left without access to legal cannabis, Nebraska was finally presented with ballot initiatives 437 and 438, which aimed to decriminalize and legalize the possession of medical marijuana, respectively. At BCom, we’re all-in on winning the tough fights; Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana needed as much grassroots fundraising as we could provide to power a ballot campaign that had no outside funding from national groups – a match made in heaven.
Through social media, email, and SMS fundraising, we funded over half of Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana’s total cycle contributions, giving them what they needed to pass these ballot initiatives. BCom knows our grassroots audience: with over 60% of the donors being first-time contributors, we converted voters statewide for the first time. We’re proud to prove that Nebraskans band together: 90% of all donors came from within the state.

Support Our Schools Nebraska
After two years of aggressive campaign, relentless attacks from well-funded special interest opposition and over 200,000 signatures, Legislative Bill 1402 was brought to the ballot to determine whether public funds would go to private schools. To break free from these attacks – and have the resources to deliver our own, winning message, BCom built a grassroots fundraising strategy that focused on a strong recurring donor program and unique messaging strategy for the campaign.
To raise awareness of Legislative Bill 1402 on a national scale and build fundraising across Nebraska, we needed a strong audience who was ready to fight with us. Through our list growth and messaging strategy, we were able to build a dedicated recurring donor audience.
For the fourth time in Nebraska’s legislative history, Nebraskans gave a resounding “no” to using public tax dollars to fund private schools.
Protect Our Schools Kentucky
With millions of out-of-state dollars backing it, Amendment 2 aimed to divert public funds into private schools, and Protect Our Schools Kentucky needed to fight back. BCom developed a targeted acquisition initiative, executed a high-impact digital fundraising strategy, and launched a rapid-response texting campaign to educate voters and spur them into action.
We developed and executed a multi-channel digital fundraising campaign for Protect Our Schools Kentucky, incorporating email, texting, and grassroots website donations. Our strategic list acquisitions program was designed to attract donors with a proven history of supporting public education, ultimately achieving a 338% increase in active email subscribers. To ensure our omnichannel content was as relevant as possible, we launched a rapid response texting program that capitalized on opposition news, fundraising deadlines, and campaign milestones, which delivered a 484% return on investment for the client. Overall, the texting program alone raised 33.5% of total fundraising.
Once they knew what was at stake, Kentuckians firmly voted no on Amendment 2 by 600,000 votes.

John Legend: Ohio Special Election
In July 2023, John Legend returned to his home state of Ohio for a "Day of Action" in Cincinnati. The goal? Rallying voters to oppose “Issue 1,” a referendum designed to make it harder for voter-led initiatives to amend the Ohio State Constitution. Legend canvassed neighborhoods, spoke with supporters, and posed for countless photo ops, all while advocating for a "NO" vote.
BCom was there every step of the way, capturing the essence of the day through dynamic photography and video. Our content highlighted Legend's authentic connection to Ohio, amplifying his message to a digital audience. This effort, paired with grassroots organizing, helped secure a major victory as Ohioans rejected Issue 1 at the polls.
